Bowling news - April

Updated: May 3

The clubs officers, committees and volunteers went into overdrive to prepare for the start of the season - which was set for April 20th

This year's club charity was chosen - The Salvation Army

The Green Team had performed lots of preparatory work through March. Through April the green sprung to life from its winter slumbers - lots of repair work to the surface, much cleaning and tidying of ditches and surrounds, precise remarking of rinks and frequent systematic cutting to arrive at a surface ready for bowling.

New scoreboards were purchased with sponsorship backing.

After much hand ringing the design of the new club shirts was resolved.

An initial order was placed for 52 shirts including Ladies and Men designs and in an array of different sizes. This order arrived in early March and fitting sessions were quickly organised to enable members to arrive at their exact size.

Following the fittings a further 52 shirts were ordered with members paying in advance for their individual choice.

The various rotas, cleaning, gardening and bar schedules were published

The club handbooks were printed and ready for personal collection from April 12th

The fixture secretaries published the season's impressive fixture programme.

Members were emailed to ask what different bowling activities they wanted to be considered for. Members were requested to complete the "non availability" folders

Welcome messages were issued by the men's Club Captain, our LXL carer, the Aggregate team and Hospital competition overseer

The men's selectors met in early April to agree their philosophy for team selection.

They sent an email to all playing members detailing their approach to team selection.

Team sheets were published for the first run of games two weeks in advance.

Men's lockers were reviewed with assignments unchanged from season 2023. All new locker requests were satisfied.

The bowling season opener was April 20th with a well attended mix drive.

Open bowling was available from April 21st.

Aggregates started from April 23rd.
