13th May

Well, we all knew this fixture would be a tough game to play, as we are so used to our beautifully manicured green at West Wickham BC.

As always, this fixture is a challenge, and you really must work very hard to get your bowls up the green to get anyway near the jack

At the halfway point at nine ends we were 21-43 down, with only my rink leading 10-8. I thought at this stage we had a chance. How wrong I was!!

The 2nd session, after tea, was a bowling nightmare and we finally lost 41-92.

I really felt for my lead, Graham Melville, who struggled with nearly every delivery, but to his credit he soldiered on and did get a couple of great shots onto the jack. Unfortunately, in the end my rink the wheels did come off in the 2nd session and we lost 13-31.

However, we did have a superb fight back on Rink 5 by Tim Jordan, Alan Canham & Paul Rispoli (Skip), who were 4-10 down at the break, to came back to draw at 13-13 each. Well done guys.

A big thank you must go out to our hosts at Spring Park Shirley, who made us very welcome and treated us to lovely spread of cakes & biscuit with tea & coffee at the interval.

I look forward to our return fixture.
